Name of Artist/Band and where are you from? (Include all band members and any instrument played)
I'm Joey Werra 1/3 of the group Sleepless, D-fect and Landry are sorry they couldn't be here but they had some musical business to attend to. And we're from around the "Wey" Weymouth, MA.
How did you break into the music industry?
I've always been a fan of music of all kinds rock, soul, blues, not just hip hop. Then D-fect and I met when we were young and had a common interest in music. From there we started our first group O.L.T(Operation Latte Thunder) as sort of a joke thing. I had so much aggression in me that I took it and used it to my advantage.
Choose one adjective to describe your music style?
REAL
Do you write your own songs? If so, what are your songs about and where do you draw your inspiration?
We all write our own lyrics. When my mind and his mind, our mind come together it's a combustion of illness. Our songs are about real life experiences. Or sometimes they're about things we'd like to do, like to do but would go to jail for. So we get it out with the pen and pad, vent it out with the mic. Ya know we pull our lyrics from our good times and bad, when we're angry or sad, sh*t around us the booze, the drugs, women, enemies, friends, and friends that became enemies
What project are you currently promoting and is it available for purchase?
As a group we just dropped our album Unorthodox Cypher last month. Personally I just released Joey Werra From Hip Hop. D-fect has his The D-fect and all of these are available now, hit us up.
Are you looking for an independent label deal or a major label deal?
At this point its like whatever. I'm not gonna say I wouldn't sign a major label deal, cause if its a good deal I'll take it. The way the industry is changing though you can sign with an indie label and still make money for what you love. So I would say it just depends.
How would you define the word “success”?
Success to me is being happy with what I do. Having bitches around, spraying champagne, and all that bullsh*t. Ya know the stuff you can get caught up in. just being happy and making others happuthrough
What is your biggest career embarrassment?
There's been a couple times where I was embarrassed because of the people that put on the shows. Some of our fan base is on the younger side so we do all ages shows. Well that got miscommunicated apparently. So we had kids from other states show up and across MA and they couldn't get in. So I said f**k it. I'm down for the fans and wouldn't do the shows. I'm sorry to those who came out and could get in, but I gotta keep it real.
Most memorable moment in creating one of your records?
Most memorable would be..... when we first started making music and we were up in Darren's room and there's no a/c, sweating our balls off but it didn't matter cause we were making music.
who has been the most influential person in your music career?
Actually it's haters. They're like the fuel for the fire. I don't let it get to me I feed off it. The more they hate the harder I want to try.
Do you feel that white rappers such as Vanilla Ice or Eminem paved the way for white rappers in hip-hop?
Why you gotta ask me that? Anyways i guess they did but I feel like that is who white rap is limited to and there are so many greats. Violent J, Shaggy 2 Dope, Twiztid, Blaze Ya Dead Homie. Let's not forget the Beastie Boys. I look forward to the day when race isn't the issue but if you can spit.
what was your first job?
It was at a dry cleaners. We did some crazy sh*t there. Like I was mad poor so we got the "extra" clothes, and all sorts of stuff. And my boss was an asshole. So yeah that was my first job.
What is your worst Fear?
Definitely spiders. I don't know why, they never did anything to me. But seriously they creep me out.
What is your guilty pleasure?
A lot of people are gonna hate on this, call me a nerd I don't give a f**k. That sh*ts is mad interesting I don't care. And other shows like Monsterquest. People are gonna feel stupid when they find out he's real.
Any advice or lessons learned in the music industry that you would like to
share with other indie artists?
Just be yourself. Can't stress that enough. If you make up a persona or whatever and then people call you out on your fake sh*t. You're gonna look mad stupid.
What is the number one thing you hope people get out of your music?
Satisfaction, Happiness, Energy, a release from whatever is bothering them. So they know they're not alone out there.
